Salem Helps to Get Guns Off The Streets

Salem Helps to Get Guns Off The Streets

See Daily News Article – NYPD purchases 81 guns at Harlem gun buyback, marking a return of the program

You can trade in a gun for cash this weekend as part of a gun buyback program.

People who bring working handguns or assault rifles to the Salem United Methodist Church at 2190 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, will receive a $200 prepaid card with no questions asked, according to a Wednesday announcement from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office.

All guns must arrive in a box or a plastic or paper bag. Weapons transported by car should be locked in the trunk.

Police officers will screen each gun to determine if it’s operable. Participants are encouraged to surrender multiple guns, but they will only receive cash cards for the first three guns, according to the DA’s office.

The buyback is part of a new six-week anti-violence initiative to rid the streets of guns, held in partnership with the NYPD, Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E., an anti-violence nonprofit and the nonprofit One Hundred Black Men of New York, the DA’s office said.
